Badly worded questions

In Maths classes 

The point is the way it is phrased it can be interpreted as meaning either

1. Both adults buy the same. Each buys a single to leeds and each buys a return to Hull
Or

So 3 poss. answers
1. Both buy the same. Each buys a single to leeds and each buys a return to Hull
2. Both buy different tickets. One gets a single to Leeds & the other buys a return to Hull.
3. One gets a return that takes him to Hull & back and then both get singles to Leeds.
